Alex Holtsford has devoted his law practice to representing civil defendants since 1986. He is a founding partner of the firm, which was formed in 1989. Alex is highly regarded by his clients and peers as one of the most effective lawyers in the State of Alabama when trying a case to a jury or judge. He has successfully tried cases in virtually all venues throughout Alabama, in both state and federal courts. In addition to his extensive jury and non-jury trial experience as lead counsel, Alex provides pre-litigation advice to clients and personally handles dispositive pretrial motions as well as complex discovery issues. He strategically advocates for his clients during mediations and settlement negotiations. Also, he has represented clients in numerous successful appeals. Prior to entering private practice, Alex began his legal career as a staff attorney to Chief Justice C. C. “Bo” Torbert, Jr. of the Alabama Supreme Court.
Alex’s practice includes a wide range of civil defense matters, including insurance defense litigation, fraud and bad faith claims, motor vehicle/trucking cases, employment and civil rights defense, workers’ compensation matters, and premises liability litigation. He is often called upon to provide insurance coverage opinions that involve complicated legal and factual situations. Alex works closely with general counsel of corporations and insurance claims representatives and assists all clients, whether individuals or entities, with defining, understanding and implementing their objectives to effectively and efficiently achieve positive results.
Alex has consistently been active in professional legal associations. He was elected in 2008 by the Montgomery County Bar Association as its president. He was selected to serve as President of the Alabama Defense Lawyers Association (ADLA) from 1999-2000 and has remained active in ADLA as a member of the Editorial Board for its publication as well as a member of ADLA’s important Amicus Curiae Committee, which determines whether particular legal issues are of significance to the clients of the defense bar such that a brief should be submitted on behalf of ADLA’s membership of over 1,000 attorneys. He participates as a speaker each year at ADLA’s annual meeting to assure ADLA’s members are fully apprised of key court rulings. Alex also is a long-time member of the prestigious Standing Committee on the Alabama Rules of Appellate Procedure of the Alabama Supreme Court.
