His practice has also focused on commercial litigation, real estate disputes, and personal injury.
Chip’s experience with commercial disputes involves antitrust, unfair competition, breach of contract, civil/business conspiracy, tortious interference with business expectancy, fraud, franchising, intellectual property, nuisance, qui tam/False Claims Act, and covenants not to compete.
Chip’s experience with real estate matters includes resolving disputes involving boundary lines, covenants of quiet possession, deed interpretation, and ownership of mineral interests.
Chip’s cases and clients have involved a number of industries, including mining, gas, coated fabrics, composite sheet product, brick making, aviation, health care, broadcast media, metal castings, higher education, accounting, and many more.
Chip also has regularly handled personal injury and wrongful death cases, will challenges, and lemon law disputes. He has a Superb rating from Avvo.
Chip is a former president of the Roanoke Bar Association and has served as chair of the Roanoke Law Foundation and Virginia State Bar’s Antitrust Franchising and Trade Regulation Section. He is a graduate of University of Virginia’s Trial Advocacy Institute.
Chip graduated magna cum laude from Virginia Tech and earned his law degree from the University of Virginia School of Law, where he was named a Dillard Fellow. Chip has been recognized by Best Lawyers in America, Super Lawyers Business Edition, and Virginia Super Lawyers. He holds a Martindale-Hubbell AV® Preeminent Peer Review rating and has also been named to the Legal Elite list by Virginia Business magazine. Chip has long been active in the community. He currently serves on the board of the Legal Aid Society of Roanoke Valley and is on the advisory board for Commonwealth Catholic Charities. He has been a delegate and president of the Roanoke Valley Aquatic Association, has served as treasurer of the Girl Scouts of Virginia Skyline Council, and has volunteered with Roanoke’s Refugee and Immigration Services. He is a graduate of the Roanoke Regional Chamber of Commerce’s Leadership Roanoke Valley program.
Finally, Chip has extensive experience in firm management. He has served for many years on the firm’s Board of Directors, as Co-Chair of the Finance Committee, and as Compensation Committee Chair.
