Keene W. Bartley is a partner and serves as co-manager of Schulman, LeRoy & Bennett, PC and has been practicing with the firm since 1982. Mr. Bartley received a B.A. from David Lipscomb College in 1979 and a J.D. from Memphis State University in 1982. His areas of practice include civil litigation with special emphasis in the areas of construction law, arbitration and mediation, general business transactions, commercial real estate sales, development, financing, commercial leasing and management issues, and matters arising from the retail sale of petroleum products. Mr. Bartley also serves as an arbitrator for court appointed and private arbitration proceedings.Mr. Bartley recieved his designation as a Rule 31 General Civil Mediator by the Alternate Dispue Resolution Commission of the Tennessee Supreme Court in 2021.For almost 30 years he has been certified as a 504 loan closing attorney by the United States Small Business Administration. He has closed more than 200 SBA loans representing the lender and numerous additional occasions representing conventional lenders and borrowers.Mr. Bartley has a substantial business practice wherein he advises clients upon business matters including acquisition and sales, contracts, employment matters, and commercial litigation. Mr. Bartley has has represented his clients in transactions involving the sale or acquisition of multi-million dollar Commercial, Retail, and Multi-Family properties.Mr. Bartley’s business representation of family businesses also includes providing estate planning and succession advice.In connection with the petroleum industry, Mr. Bartley has represented clients in contractual and administrative disputes involving environment, taxation, unfair sales practices, and matters involving the Federal Petroleum Marketing Practices Act. Mr. Bartley has also appeared before legislative committees and administrative agencies in the State of Tennessee regarding petroleum issues. He serves as counsel for the Tennessee Fuel and Convenience Store Association and represents many of its members on commercial, petroleum, taxation, land use, environmental, and administrative issues and including licensing and sales of alcoholic beverages.His volunteer works include having acted as legal counsel in Ecclesiastical disputes for the Episcopal Diocese of Tennessee, as well as serving for many years on the Architectual Review Committee for the Diocese. He is also a Life Member and has served on the Board of Directors of BOMA Nashville (Building Owners and Managers Association) also serving as an instructor in its RPA program and teaching seminars on legal and business management matters.Mr. Bartley is a member of the Nashville, Tennessee and American Bar Associations. He currently serves as a Hearing Committee Member for the Tennessee Board of Professional Responsibility. He is an original member of and has served as President, a member of the Board of Directors, and commitee chair of The Tennessee Association of Construction Counsel. He has in the past served as a member of the Ethics and Unauthorized Practices Committee of the Nashville Bar Association, and Chairman of the Subcommittee on Certification of Specialists. He is a member of the ABA Forum on the Construction Industry, where he has served on several committees and has been a presenter at its annual meeting.
