A lifelong Reno resident, Matt Addison joined McDonald Carano in 1989 as a law clerk, became an Associate in 1991 and a Partner in 1998, and has been serving as Managing Partner of the Reno office since 2018. During his entire professional career at McDonald Carano, the firm has expanded and diversified along with the economic landscape of Nevada. Mr. Addison is helping to guide the firm into the ever-evolving future with a strategic vision aimed at distinguishing McDonald Carano as a bold innovator in the legal industry.
Construction Law & Litigation
Mr. Addison also serves as Chair of the firm’s Construction Law & Litigation Practice Group. He negotiates complex construction agreements, defends major defect claims and prosecutes payment claims by contractors. Mr. Addison understands the challenges faced by owners, designers, contractors, subcontractors, construction managers, and specialty consultants. Whether planning projects, counseling on claims resolution or actively litigating a construction claim, he works toward achieving each individual client’s business objectives.
Mr. Addison devotes a substantial amount of his construction law practice to advising on project oversight, pre-litigation counseling on troubled projects, procurement, and bidding disputes. He provides realistic assessments of entitlement, damages, litigation costs, litigation risks and uncertainties, and measures these costs against the value of prompt dispute resolution. Mr. Addison has decades of experience drafting, revising, negotiating and litigating building contracts from the perspective of owners, general contractors and subcontractors. He is presently handling all the contracts for the largest mixed-use residential and commercial master planned community development in the City of Reno and serves as Nevada counsel for an owner in an international arbitration involving a $300 million construction project, with nearly $100 million in back charge and construction defect claims.
Mr. Addison also serves as the Administrative Law Judge for the Nevada State Contractors Board, which regularly requires him to review and interpret construction contracts of all types in the administration of his hearing dockets.
