Richard P. Salloum was born in Gulfport, Mississippi. He attended the University of Notre Dame and graduated from the University of Mississippi with a Bachelor of Business Administration. There he was an honor roll student and served as President of the Business School Student Body. He was also chosen to Who’s Who in American Colleges and Universities. Richard received his law degree from Tulane University Law School in 1972.

 

Richard is one of the founding partners of the firm and is a member of the Harrison County Bar Association, the Mississippi State Bar Association, the Federal Bar Association, the American Bar Association and was selected as a Fellow of the American Bar Foundation, which is limited to one percent of the lawyers admitted to practice in the United States.  Additionally he is a member of the Mississippi Defense Lawyers Association, the Defense Research Institute, the Southeastern Admiralty Law Institute and the Maritime Law Association of the United States. Richard has been selected as a Mid-South Super Lawyer for the past nine consecutive years. He carries an AV Legal Ability Rating (very high to preeminent) with the Martindale Hubbell Legal Directory.

 

Richard primarily practices admiralty defense including Jones Act, General Maritime Law, and Longshore and Harbor Worker’s Compensation Act litigation. He is also involved in products liability defense and the defense of major personal injury and commercial litigation.  He has experience in land acquisition including the trial of eminent domain cases for large industrial and commercial developments. He has been admitted to practice in all state and federal courts in Mississippi, and before the U. S. Fourth Circuit, Fifth Circuit, Ninth Circuit and Eleventh Circuit Courts of Appeal. He has also been admitted to practice before the United States Supreme Court and has argued a case before that Court.

 

Richard and his wife have one son. They are members of St. James Catholic Church in Gulfport. Richard was chosen by the Bishop to serve on the Diocese Finance Council. He is involved in diverse professional activities, was a member or director of various civic and charitable organizations, and was formerly on the Board of Directors of the Gulfport Yacht Club.
