Suzanne is a uniquely versatile lawyer with a sophisticated knowledge of several areas of law that few attorneys can match. Her work involves helping Mainers plan for their futures sometimes after suffering from a tragic illness or disabling injury. Johnson Legal, LLC focuses on three primary areas: Longshore and Asbestos claims, Estate planning/Probate/Elder Law; and Social Security Disability. Suzanne is one of very few attorneys who have years of experience representing Mainers for injury due to exposure to asbestos-containing products recovering substantial settlements for her clients and their family members. Often she brings these claims on behalf of shipyard and paper mill workers, and others who suffer from workplace exposure to asbestos. Suzanne has extensive experience with Asbestos Exposure and Longshore claims. Due to the needs of her clients, she became a registered representative of claimants for Social Security Disability claims appearing at hearings throughout the State of Maine.
Suzanne has a long term commitment to families, elders and friends who have entrusted her and her staff to respond to their Estate Planning, Elder Law and Probate needs. The Johnson Legal team uses their skills and knowledge to assist their clients prospectively, helping them to avoid future conflict or concern in their lives or in the administration of their Estate.
Suzanne is admitted to practice law in the jurisdictions of Connecticut, the District of Columbia, Massachusetts and Maine, as well as the Federal District Court of Maine and the First Circuit Court of Appeals.
Suzanne has been recognized as the National Trial Lawyers Top 100 Trial Lawyers in 2014 as well one of the Nation’s Top 100 Injured Workers’ Attorneys by the Worker’s Injury Liability Group (WILG).
Suzanne was born and raised outside of Chicago, Illinois. She earned her undergraduate degree with honors from Duke University and her Juris Doctor from Vanderbilt School of Law. After working in Washington, D.C., she was hired by a large Connecticut law firm and began her New England experience working for high net worth individuals with complex tax strategy needs. Later, Suzanne worked for a Boston, firm representing venture capital funds in the development of low-income housing, handling complex national financial transactions. For past two decades Suzanne has represented injured workers.
Long active with non-profit and professional organizations, Suzanne is currently a Board Member of the College Guild (offering free non-traditional correspondence courses to prisioners); has served as President of the Lincoln County Bar Association as well as the President and legal counsel for many years to the Damariscotta River Association. Suzanne has also advised the Medomak River Land Trust in their conservation work, and for the past 15 years she has served on an advisory board to ensure the clean-up of toxic waste at the former Naval Air Station Brunswick. Given her experience with representing victims of occupational disease she strives to ensure the health and beauty of the Maine landscape remains for all of the succeeding generations.
Suzanne resides in Mid-Coast Maine with her husband, two children and the family dog and cat.
